A couple of problems and questions

Post by khaffner »

Hello everyone!
About one month ago, I got my Tellstick. It is connected to my computer, which runs Windows 7 64-bit.

The computer is running a schedule, which turns some lights on and off at fixed times. The Schedule is configured by the scheduler provided by Telldus. But the schedule fails at least once a day. It seems to be random which tasks fail, but the error is always the same: "Device could not be found. Please make sure that TelldusService is running and no device scheduled for turn on/off has been removed." When I googled this error, all I get was the source code from the program, but i don't understand it.
The computer reboots early every morning, and the first task(about half an hour after reboot) always works. Without exception. But the rest of the tasks during the day fail regularly. How do I solve this? Do you need any more information?

I am considering buying a tellstick duo or net. Mainly because they can receive signals.
But I have a couple of questions about the Tellstick Net:
-Does it have a scheduler, and if yes, what are the features of it?
-Can a specific temperature from a wireless thermometer trig an action?
-Can i use it without the web interface or API? Can i use SSH?
-I live in Norway. Where can i buy one? All the webshops I have found are out of stock, and have changed the estimated date for weeks now. I am willing to buy from webshops in other countries.

Yes, try it out for yourself using our Demo-account. Email demo@telldus.com, password demodemo

Thanks for the reply
The Scheduler seems to be perfect for my use! :D

How is the reliability of the Tellstick Net? Has anyone reported that it crashes, skips scheduled actions, disconnects from Live, or something similar?

TellStick Net is dependent of our Telldus Live! service, and we have had different kind of problems with this occasionally. All problems that have occured have been fixed, and those ones won't happen again. We are working hard with the reliability of Telldus Live!, and are trying to identify all risks and prevent them. We have for example naturally redundant servers at different locations. However, we are sure there are more bugs to fix, but when we encounter them we'll fix them, and hopefully the downtimes will be short.

TellStick Net itself is actually very reliable. It has had some reconnection issues after network communication was lost, but the latest firmware has a lot of fixes for that.

I've had my Tellstick Net for nearly a year now and have only been forced to pull the power once. Although I started using schedules late last year, I've never had any problems with them not being executed. Besides the issues with Telldus Live! that Stefan mentions (which seems to have been fixed for real now) I have very good experience with Tellstick Net. It feels reliable.

Glad to hear it's reliable.

How are the sensor data shown on Telldus Live? Can it show temperature graphs, statistics, and other cool nerdy stuff?
Does anyone here have a screenshot?

I presume you are talking about the Telldus Live! web interface. It merely shows the current data + timestamp of last sample at the moment.

Ok thanks.

Can it be programmed to turn on or off a switch when it receives a specific signal from i.e. NEXA LMDT-609? (swedish manual: http://www.nexa.se/res/pdf/lmdt609.pdf)

Let's say I walk into a room with a light plugged in a Tellstick-capable lightswitch, the LMDT-609 on the wall sees me and sends a signal. Does the Tellstick Net receive this signal and turn on the lights in the room (if configured correctly)?
How does one configure a situation like this in Telldus Live! ?

What about one sensor trigging multiple lightswitches at once or in a row? What about a delay between the signals sent from the Tellstick Net? Is it possible to turn the lights off automatically after a given time?

Yes, I may have many ridiculous questions
But the Tellstick has opened a new world for me in my apartment, and I want to have it as automated as possible :)

All this....is possible with a number of software alternatives like EventGhost, SwitchKing, NexaHome, Homeseer etc etc

There a reason why those exists. Hopefully sometime in the future, the Live! will be more mature and feature rich but it looks like this still will take some time (I am however not the right person to state anything regarding Telldus development capacity).

One day the control & rules of our switches will live Live! in the Cloud

Best regards, Walter

Do I really need 3rd-party software for making a light turn on when a sensor sees a person in a room? I understand I need it for the advanced stuff, but something as simple as "RF signal x in = RF signal x out"?

Half the point of upgrading to Tellstick Net was to eliminate the need for a computer.

For that and some other simpler functions you listed, you do not even need a Tellstick, you can learn the devices directly with your sensor.

I think you misunderstand what I am trying to say, the development of Live! needs more time, if you are in need of something right now, you need to investigate in some additional software.

Ok. But can i configure the Tellstick Net to know what signals the sensor sent? I want Live to know if the lights are on or off, (almost)regardless of how it got turned on/off.

Situation:
I walk into the room. The Sensor transmits a signal. The light switch AND the Tellstick Net receives the signal. The light turns on on its own, and the Tellstick Net(Live!) learns the light is now on.
Is this possible?

Can Tellstick Net receive from any remote controls/sensors at all? (Besides thermometers)
