How to make a much better antenna

Post by florrepus »

English translation is two posts below.

OC:US:3160 for under 10 kr inkl frakt.

I am sorry, this should be posted in the swedish section, and I do not know how to delete it from the english.

You can translate the last part of it to English: :-)

Seems like you made a dipole or a loop antenna?

I have an old house with thick log walls and ceiling - and have trouble reaching all devices. I bought two antennas being sold on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Antenna-433MHz- ... 1228397173 and http://www.ebay.com/itm/Antenna-433MHz- ... 1228397268 - The Latest helped a little , but not much.

So I bought the large antenna at Conrad http://www.conrad.se/ANTENN-433MHZ-50-O ... & pi = 190073 it was better - but none of temperature sensors work ( Viking from Teknikkmagasinet), even one that was in the same room just two meters away.

I also tried to create better antenna in the GAO model to ClasO . http://www.clasohlson.com/no/Ekstra-mot ... r361859000 and the little http://www.clasohlson.com/no/Fjernstyrt ... ck/36-3570 The antenna is a small string 1/8-dels long wavelength = 8.64 cm . The main problem was to buy screwdrivers to the weird screws. And since I have both ANSLUTA and Nexa and temperature sensors - so I consider it as an emergency measure to do so.

The transition plug for the Conrads antenna I bought on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/SMA-Male-Plug-t ... OC : U.S. : 3160 for under 10 $ including shipping .

I used this and made as an antenna myself. I used a regular cable, one end I stuck into the hole in the plug and the other end I attached the metal around the outside (it is thus a closed circuit / a loop), and turned the plug on TellStick. The cable I attached as a loop in the ceiling in the attic, that's where I have my TellStick Net. It works VERY well, with all my 20 Device and sensors.

The cable length is important, it must be equal to the wavelength which is 69.14 cm , or 2, 4, 8 ... times longer , or 1/ 2, 1/4 part ... The longer the cable the better , since I have plenty of room in the attic , I used 4xbølgelengen = 276cm . Conclusion : simple, cheap and very good. Much better than anything else I 've tried.

Talking about the detector,i was thinking of the metal detector for gold, have anybody ever used it?

I have a "farraday's cage" two floors house:
Lammi's concrete house with lot's of iron on the wall's.
This one worked for me fine ( full wave antenna), They sent it with 2.5m cable and with SMA connector, free of charge ( I requested them to do so ).
Also it included nice aluminium bracket so easy to screw it behind cabinet etc...

ebay
try search for
SMA Male Crimp RG174 GSM GPRS 433MHz Antenna Cable 1.5M

you will get one from china for about $10
worked perfect for me. Glued it at the ceiling in the livingroom and now the tellstick net covers all the area and even some other sensors.

the important thing to search for is SMA Male and GSM GPRS 433MHz.
