Telldus Net battery backup 12v

I would like to add backup batteries for the Telldus Net device. The specification of the supply voltage defines just "12v" and no margins.
Sealed lead acid batteries used for battery backup will operate between 10 to 13,5v, however devices intended for battery operation should be specified for 9 to 14v.
What are the actual specification of the supply voltage? Anyone tried out battery backup?

The Net uses an USB connector for the power, this means 5 V DC and not 12 V.
Buy a simple USB cigarette light charger, they can normally handle an input of 12-15 V DC (or 12-24 V) and has a well regulated output of 5 V.
Connect the charger to your back-up batteries and you're home.

Oops - may be I was too quick here! I checked some other devices and presumed the Telldus Net was 12v too. I installed it in my cottage so I can't see it from here.
Agree, 5v requires a DCDC and this will solve the issue. The cigarette light charger will be very easy to assemble as well, plug and play. Thanks !
