How to get states from devices with API?

I have one idea that requires that i get the state of devices with the Telldus Live API.
I have devices with Turn Off and Turn On functionality that i should whant to get the latest state off, even better get a URL request to my own API every time someone press a button to turn off or on any devices with telldus live.
How to do this, trying to read the API and i find the state information on the devices but nothing changes on the state values when using the turn on or turn off methods.
