Tellstick with an antenna connector

Post by danardf »

Hi.
You could imagine the possibility to make a device with a antenna connector to put this antenna :

Just an idea like that. :)

I have that (Aurel) antenna but connected to my home made receiver and it is really great, I pick up signals from the surrounding several hundred meters from my house. To use it for transmission, I think it is not allowed but would of course improve very much

The key here is to provide a device with a suitable connector like SMA. There are cheap BNC to SMA adaptors available that could be used to connect the above antenna in such case

I have connected my TellStick to that antenna using an SMB to BNC adapter.

Adapter SMB hane/BNC hona 50 Ω, 33 SMB-BNC-50-2

What did you think about the result? Was it better?

About my problem, it's better, but it's not perfect.
I won 2 or 3 meters, that's all.
I've not the same result between Linux and Windows. It's funny.
I've 2 receptors which work fine but the 2 others doesn't work on Linux.
If I try to use it on Windows, it's good.

Only pity is that a smb to bnc cost approx 4 times more than a sma to bnc... (~200SEK instead of ~50)

Much better  my pre-release TellStick Duo can now pick up signals at approximately the same distance as my wlan.

Wow, did it improve that much???

My Tellstick Duo is only receiving at a radius of 5-6 metres with the original antenna. I will order an adapter from Elfa and connect my Aurel antenna then to measure the difference.

Did you get the same proportional improvements on transmissions as well?

I got almost the same result as you (up to 8 metres with the original antenna) using a standard Nexa transmitter, but had no problem receiving signals from all rooms in my house made by wood when I replaced the original antenna with the Aurel.

Have not tested how much the transmission is improved, I used an old TellStick with a wire antenna (modified by Telldus) connected to a laptop when I compared the range with my wlan.
